The Developing Mind Project

In 2010, I-LABS launched the Developing Mind Project (DMP). This multi-year research initiative marries new brain-imaging technology with the vision and expertise of a world-class research team. Scientists in the I-LABS laboratories will explore how young children learn — including windows of opportunity for social and cognitive development, optimal time trajectories for learning, and the how and why the brain optimizes learning at different points in development.

The Developing Mind Project will deliver a body of knowledge that can help shape tomorrow’s guidelines for parents, educators and policy-makers as well as ensure that investments in early learning are made wisely and equitably.

Strategies

In order to accomplish our goals for the Developing Mind Project, I-LABS must continue to demonstrate its leadership in 0-5 child learning research through:  access to state-of-the-art technology; continued support of a world-class team of scientists; and solving the “translation” gap between the science and the practice of early learning.
