Bio

Dr. Huei-Mei Liu is a Fulbright Senior Researcher visiting I-LABS from August 2016 to August 2017. She is a full professor in the Department of Special Education at the National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, Taiwan, specializing in speech perception/production development and disorders in infants through school aged children. Dr. Liu completed her doctorate in Speech and Hearing Sciences at University of Washington at 2002, and has been the principal investigator of many research grants assessing speech/language development and disorders in Mandarin-speaking children using behavioral and neuroimaging methods. Her recent research focuses on speech perception deficits in children with specific language impairment (SLI) and its relationships with language learning difficulties. She hopes to explore brain activation patterns of speech perception in SLI children in order to construct a theory about SLI, and provide insights into to early identification and intervention.
