Dr. Vasily L. Yarnykh, PhD is a Research Professor of Radiology at the University of Washington and an expert in magnetic resonance physics and quantitative MRI methods. Dr. Yarnykh is an inventor of a number of widely used MRI technologies including several efficient blood signal suppression techniques for cardiovascular imaging, the actual flip-angle imaging method for fast and robust B1 field mapping, and the fast macromolecular proton fraction (MPF) mapping method for quantitative myelin imaging. Upon receiving a High-Impact Neuroscience Research Resource Grant from NIH in 2018, Dr. Yarnykh’s work is mainly focused on the development and widespread distribution of the MPF mapping technology as a uniform approach to quantify myelin in the central nervous system for clinical and pre-clinical research. Dr. Yarnykh closely collaborates with I-LABS providing continuous support of MRI acquisition protocols and image processing algorithms. Long-term research collaboration between Dr. Yarnykh and the I-LABS team is driven by their interest in identifying fundamental relationships between myelin, cognitive development, and learning from early childhood till adolescence.
