Marley Jarvis is an Outreach and Education Specialist at the Institute for Learning & Brain Sciences (I-LABS) at the University of Washington. Before joining the I-LABS Outreach team, she oversaw the Science Communication Fellowship Program at Pacific Science Center through the Portal to the Public initiative. Dr. Jarvis has given dozens of conference presentations, public talks, seminars, and workshops on how people learn and public engagement. She specializes in translating complex research topics into relevant and interesting stories for different lay audiences.
Dr. Jarvis grew up on the far northern California coast and she holds a B.A. in Biology and Environment and Technology Studies at Carleton College and a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Oregon and the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology, with a research focus on nearshore oceanography and plankton ecology. She is a former Adjunct Professor in Biology at the University of Oregon. She is endlessly fascinated with how people learn throughout their lives, and sees science communication and storytelling as powerful tools in broadening diversity and inclusivity in STEM research fields.
